Our Congregation

As a congregation, we emphasize unity and welcome Jews to join our services and become an active part of our community. The centrality of our location in downtown Manhattan attracts thousands of diverse Jews from around the world seeking a warm and inviting atmosphere where prayer and friendship are cherished.

Our proximity to many of the nation's leading universities allows us unprecedented access to a young and enlightened student population that is increasingly seeking a vibrant Jewish communal life, coupled with Torah observance in the classical Sephardic tradition.

Rabbinic Leadership

Rabbi Joey Faur

RABBI

Rabbi Joey Faur is the Rabbi of Congregation Magen David in Manhattan. A third-generation rabbi, he combines his family's legacy of Jewish leadership with a fresh vision for New York City's Jewish community. He earned his B.A. in Business and Entrepreneurship from Reichman University and served in the IDF Paratroopers Special Forces (2018–2021, reserves) as a communications specialist and field interrogator. In December 2024, he moved from Israel to New York with the mission of shaping a vibrant, inspired Jewish future.

Alongside his rabbinic leadership, Rabbi Faur is the founder of Yafe Beito, publishing the collected works of his grandfather, Hakham Dr. José Faur, in collaboration with Koren Publishers. With professional experience in the technology sector and over a decade of service as a Hazzan worldwide, he works at the intersection of tradition and innovation, inspiring the next generation to unite spiritual depth with professional excellence.

Rabbi Sion Setton

RABBI

Rabbi Sion Setton serves as the Principal of Yeshivah Prep High School in Brooklyn and as a Based-in Rabbi in Lower Manhattan. He is pursuing his Doctorate in Education at Yeshiva University, exploring the relationship between ADHD and spirituality in adolescent students.

With prior experience as Rabbi of Magen David Synagogue in NYC, Director of Technology at Barkai Yeshivah, and an affiliate Chaplain at New York University, Rabbi Setton brings a diverse skill set to his current positions. He has rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University and was named by New York's Jewish Week as a "36 under 36" Jewish leader and change-maker.

He lives in New York with his wife, Mijal Bitton, and their two children.

Leor Alkadaa

HAZZAN

Leor Alkadaa is from Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in the Syrian community. He graduated from Yeshivah of Flatbush High School, Brooklyn College, and Stony Brook University for medical school, and is continuing to train as a surgery resident.

Always passionate about music, he started singing at events and weddings locally and internationally, as well as at Passover and Rosh Hashanah holiday programs. He gives back to the community through music and medicine, and he strives to practice that every day of his life. We are excited to have Leor as part of the Magen David of Manhattan community, where we will rejoice together on many happy occasions!

Erica Rolo

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Erica Rolo is Congregation Magen David of Manhattan's Program Director. She started as a part-time administrator and is the main coordinator for synagogue operations. She has been with CMDM for thirteen years and loves being a part of the community. Prior to her time at CMDM, she worked in real estate development at Douglas Elliman and studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Business and Fashion Marketing.

Yossi Abraham

MORNING TORAH TEACHER

Over the past eight years, Yossi has been teaching young adults Talmud in both morning and evening classes. Alongside his teaching, he works in Midtown, holding a sales position in the home decor wholesale industry. Yossi lives in Brooklyn with his wife and four kids. In his free time, he enjoys playing sports and exercising, as well as spending time with the family. Understanding both the learning and working worlds, Yossi brings a unique, universal approach to teaching that attracts students from all walks of life. Yossi joined the MDM community in January and offers classes throughout the morning on both Perasha and Gemara.
